Tina Stephenson

Child Behavior Specialist

Tina Stephenson joined ChildUp in July 2006 and is active in the areas of research, program design, workshop facilitation and parent consultation.

Tina has been working with children and families in India, South Africa, China, Hong Kong and Canada for the last ten years. During her career, Tina has designed and facilitated award winning cross-cultural programmes for the YMCA, the Canadian International Development Agency and York University. In 2002, she moved to China as an examiner for the British Council. Later she served as principal of the Busy Bees kindergarten in Hong Kong from 2004 to 2006. In parallel, she has developed her own parenting programs under the Early Years Network in Hong Kong since 2004. Tina writes also a monthly column for the Parents’ Journal, Hong Kong’s premier parenting magazine.

Through Tina’s ten years of practical experience in Canada, she has helped families experiencing a wide range of issues, from everyday parenting problems to working with children with severe mental illness or attachment and behavior related disorders. She is a former foster parent and therefore understands the complexity of day to day parenting and the need for pragmatic and practical behavior solutions. She has also worked for child welfare, community health and school boards advising families on varied parenting and education issues from managing temper tantrums, effective discipline management and maximizing child learning.

Tina holds a BA (hons) with double major in Political Science and Women Studies from York University and a Child Behaviour Management Specialist certificate from the University of Toronto.
