It’s traditional in French education to emphasize the negative. But this state of mind may be changing, thanks to parents coming from English-speaking countries and who apply the “positive discipline” model (a combination between firmness and emphasis on the positive) at home with their children.

Positive discipline workshops were originally developed in California by American family counselor and educator Jane Nelsen. Beatrice Sabate, a clinical psychologist who adapted the method for France, says that today “parents are looking to have relationships that are based more on cooperation.” Positive discipline workshops are available in the French capital as in other different regions of the country.
