In Ontario, elementary school students will soon go back to the basics in mathematics. Teachers will get new training and parents will receive new tools to better help their children with math homework. According to a senior government source, "Discovery Math is gone, it has failed our children." After more than a decade of chasing fads and trendy concepts, schools will return to good old tried and true methods.

The math curriculum has been a problem for years in Ontario; sex education made the headlines, while math scores kept dropping. The revised program aims to provide children with the skills they will need to be successful at school and in life. Rote learning will be reintegrated into the system and students will again have to memorize the multiplication tables. Among other basic and highly useful exercises.
