“Incredible Years”, a parent and child training program developed by an international research team, got cheerful results in improving the behavior of children with attention deficit and hyperactivity. The purpose of the courses is to teach parents how to replace harsh discipline and punishment methods by “positive affirmation”, a much nicer and more efficient method.
The four-year study showed that this kind of parental training helps reduce children’s ADHD symptoms without the use of medication. A very good news when considering that as many as 85% of children with ADHD symptoms were prescribed a drug. A trend that fortunately seems to be shifting. Early intervention is increasingly recommended as a first step, before taking any medication.
